The Panini intelligent (“Everest”) products used within your footprint share a common configuration and are expected to work all in the same way; or, if there’s an exception, you need to make sure it’s the one you want, applied only where it’s needed.

That said, peripherals undergo repair and replacement, they change location and user, so keeping track can be complicated. A wrong configuration, firmware release, or an expired security certificate can result in a device not performing as expected, thus compromising workflow efficiency and customer satisfaction.

grouped products, simultaneously. The EFM’s internal database stores
customer-defined groups, firmware details and historical data, making
them easily accessible and enabling optimised control of the status and
performance of the entire installed base.

What’s the most common application for the EFM?

EFM is conceived to simplify service activities for Everest-based (intelligent HTTPS architecture) Panini products by enabling remote configuration, upgrades, security certificate distribution. For example, it can guarantee that a group of products are aligned on the same configuration and use the same firmware version, thus preventing differences in performance when dealing with a distributed and/or large installed base: no need for an onsite service visit.
What can I do with the EFM?

Customers can: define their own Groups of scanners or other products which require a certain configuration; define the configuration; define an update policy; distribute security certificates. Historical data is also made available.
Can the customer modify the definition of product groups?

Products can be easily added to or removed from a group through the EFM web interface.
Can the customer check the product configuration?

The EFM uses an internal database where each product’s configuration, firmware versions and historical data are stored, and remain accessible to whoever is accessing with the proper EFM user profile.
Is the communication between the product and EFM secure?

All communications between the controlled product and the EFM are secure thanks to HTTPS/SSL.
How are EFM accesses managed?

EFM has an internal Active Directory to control access permissions and four predefined User types:
• Administrator – This group is authorised to create new groups with custom permissions, access the server configuration, access the log and errors sections
• Editing – This group is authorised to add devices, modify data related to registered devices and their locations
• Deployment – This group is allowed to distribute firmware and configuration releases on individual devices or device groups
• Viewing – This group is allowed to view device information, with no writing/editing permission.
