Environmental policy
Panini works with unflagging commitment to the preservation and protection of the environment, in compliance with international standards. The company’s goal is to make sure that all its activities meet the requirements of environmental sustainability, taking the same care in the safeguard and protection of natural resources as it does in all its activities.
Panini’s commitment to environmental protection is a process that starts internally – a real and constant effort, an integral part of the company mission, felt and pursued by all in order to:
- Honor the right of our Clients, Partners and Employees to live in a clean and healthy habitat
- Ensure that all company processes (production, distribution and administration) fully respect the requirements of sustainability and eco-compatibility
- Reinforce an internal culture committed to meeting our environmental responsibilities
Eco-compatible Design
At Panini, the environment is regarded as one of the most important resources to safeguard. The Company takes practical measures to meet client needs with payments processing solutions that fully satisfy their needs, including the possibility of working with the most environmentally safe and friendly tools.
As part of our commitment to eco-compatibility, we have accepted the challenge of considering the environmental impact of our products already in the conception phase, alongside all the other variables taken into consideration during design. As an example of this approach, we have studied and introduced a packaging which can reduce environmental footprint, avoiding to use the polystyrene cocoons which we employed in the past to protect the products. Today, all our scanner are protected by corrugated-cardboard produced by local companies, and made with FSC certified cellulose. Moreover, we use desiccant bags made using natural raw materials and a carefully selected biodegradable and compostable fabric, and the external cardboard is printed with water-based inks.
Other examples are the following:
- energy efficiency of the product’s operation
- a radical reduction in the number of components and the quantity of materials used in the device, in order to facilitate recyclability at the end of the product life cycle
- maximum attention to the use of recyclable materials, and the possibility of easier recovery and/or upgrading of products and materials used
Solution Impact
Throughout its 70+ year history, Panini has made defining contributions to the development of check processing technology for banking and financial institutions. Physical check processing systems which require paper documents to travel from the customer to the bank branch, and then to other banks or processing centers, contribute to the development and aggravation of global pollution.
The transformation of a physical check to into a digital image and the resulting process creates, as a significant consequence, the reduction of paper usage and the reduction of transportation which both banks and customers can avoid.
Green Attitude
Panini’s Quality Management process has identified and adjusted how company activities, processes and products can impact the environment. As a result of this analysis, Panini defined critical evaluation standards for these activities. Even the choice of our new corporate office in Torino has been driven by this attitude, among other factors.
Panini put in place a strategic plan to reduce internal consumptions (water, electricity, paper, consumables), contributing to environmental protection. The company’s environmental strategy aims to obtain sustainable consumption during daily activities, fully respecting environmental and natural resources. To do so, Panini proposes to share a green corporate culture among both its employees and third parties, such as suppliers and transportation companies.
Recycling centers have been positioned in adequately equipped spaces in our offices to allow the Panini team to collect recyclable waste, significantly contributing to waste separation and guaranteeing an effective treatment.

WEEE – Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Panini is compliant with WEEE, the European Community directive on electrical and electronic waste disposal. Together with the RoHS precept, the WEEE Directive became a European Law in February 2003, setting collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods. The directive was then updated in Directive 2012/19/UE – European Directive on electronic waste disposal and WEEE Management.
WEEE instructions ask manufacturers to follow the European responsibility for collecting, stocking, transporting and recycling the products they produce, when dismissed. Giving instruction to manage the electronic waste, this directive helps to understand how to dispose the exhausted products, also taking advantage of a recycling and reuse policy.
As a manufacturer, Panini embraces the commitment to be first in line to contribute to the recycling process and environmental safeguarding. One of the precepts given with this directive concerns the necessity to associate the company responsible to dispose electronic waste to a specific national Consortium, in order to create a logical infrastructure for stocking, transporting and recycling electronic waste. This entity is charged with the disposal, and takes care of all exhausted products the company receives from its customers. To accomplish this request, Panini chose ERION.
